balloons

Balloons by 612gr
[Story is part of assignment: inspired by Lynne Tillman's Tales of New York]

There was a little boy who begged for money around the seafront. Every day he stood in the corner of a square and watched the man who sold balloons. They were huge, shiny, colourful balloons that bobbed up and down as the man moved around the square. Every day mothers and fathers bought these pretty balloons for their little children who squealed and ran and sometimes let them loose.
One hot sunny day the boy was upset because he had made very little money. He looked up and saw a young child with his pretty mother approach the man and buy the biggest and reddest balloon. While the mother paid the man, the child ran off with it  chasing pigeons and trailing the red balloon behind him until he got near the boy.
It was now or never. The boy kicked him and grabbed the balloon from his tiny hands. He ran away laughing excitedly. The child started crying and was hugged by his mother; the man cursed him loudly and gave the child another balloon. The boy left for home, where his father beat him up for not bringing enough money and burst "that goddam' balloon".

Όντως - για λίγη ώρα ήταν ευτυχισμένος. Αλλά δε μπορώ να μη συμπάσχω: εγώ θέλω διάρκεια και βάθος χρόνου στις απολαύσεις μου :)
